My Life Is A Prayer

An exhibition by Raul Speek

St Davids Cathedral
9 October-3 November 2023

Don’t miss Raul Speek’s new exhibition of his religious paintings in the fitting setting of St Davids Cathedral in Pembrokeshire.

My Life Is A Prayer runs from Monday 9 October to Friday 3 November 2023 and is an opportunity to view Raul’s work in the beautiful 12th century cathedral.

Raul’s religious iconography forms one of the major themes of his work.

“This exhibition is a chance to share my religious work, and to continue my meditation on my walk along the faith trail,” says Raul. “And I hope my paintings may inspire others to reflect, too.”

RAUL SPEEK – ARTIST

paintings • prints • sculptures

Raul was born in Guantanamo, Cuba, in 1958, at the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. He lived and trained as an artist in Cuba until the early 1990s, when he took part in a BBC Arena documentary, which was filmed in Havana and focused on the young artists and writers from the area. As a result of this, Raul moved to London in 1991 and opened a studio in Spitalfields Market, where he met people like Gilbert and George, who lived nearby.

Raul moved to Pembrokeshire in 1995 where, together with his wife Heather, he opened Raul Speek Gallery at the Old Chapel in Solva. Today, he exhibits worldwide but the Old Chapel is his home and base. His work includes originals, limited edition prints, 3D works, and commissioned artwork such as murals.

Raul Speek Gallery is situated in the Old Chapel, a beautiful, converted chapel in the pretty harbour village of Solva, North Pembrokeshire. The gallery is now open Friday to Monday, from 11am to 5pm, and we may also open on other ‘pop-up’ days.

The cafe is only open for tapas nights, concerts and talks (please see details of events under our ‘News’ section). And you can hire the space for small private events (please call to discuss).

We have a shop where you can pick up art materials, jewellery, gifts, cards, framed and mounted photographs, and books.

We also hold drop-in workshops for all age groups in the summer. Plus, our gallery is available to book if you’re looking for a quirky venue for your private party.

Please note, we’re sorry we have no wheelchair access.
